So, you may be arriving to the UK via Southampton but do you plan on seeing more of the UK and don’t quite know where to go?
Our fantastic little nation is made up of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland and is full to the brim in history with many exciting places to visit.
There are SO many amazing places to visit in the UK that we could have gone on for days so we have whittled this article down to the top FOUR locations in the UK which we think you should take the time to visit (outside of Southampton!).
Obviously, this was always going to be at the top of our list. The Capital of England, London is one of the most vibrant cities in the entire world and we could literally go on for pages and pages about why it’s such a great place to visit.
London is a BIG city and is full of free attractions which is great if you’re on a budget.
Things to see here include Big Ben, Houses of Parliament and the magnificent Buckingham Palace, home to the Queen! Now, even just standing outside of the palace and watching the Queen’s guards is great, but did you know that – depending on the time of the year, you can actually go INSIDE?! Yes that’s right, you can see where the Queen and her Royal family actually hang out which is ridiculously awesome.

Fun Fact: 1.265 billion people use the London Underground every year – more than the population of India!
Cornwall has the best beaches in the UK and the climate is also more often than not, better than the rest of the UK due to its location.
BUT, the main reason we love Cornwall so much that we put it at number two on our list is because of the food!
Cornish Pasties originate from ….you guessed it, Cornwall and you can be sure you’ll get some amazing pasties when visiting here.
Once you’ve finished your delicious comfort-food pasty, be sure to help yourself to some ice-cream. Cornwall has some of the best ice-cream parlours in the whole of the UK and the creaminess and stunning flavours might even be better than the ice-cream in Rome (or a least a VERY close Second!).
Fun Fact: A team of bakers from Cornwall, hold the record for baking the biggest Cornish pasty. Weighing in at 1900 pounds and 1,750,000 calories!
OK, so this may be a bit of a trek from good old Southampton but Scotland is seriously one of the coolest places to visit in the whole of the UK, and our favourite city here has to be Edinburgh.
Take a walk around Edinburgh Castle (did you know it’s built on an extinct volcano?) and immerse yourself in hundreds and hundreds of years of fascinating history, go on one of the many ghost tours or attend one of 12 major festivals that take part in Edinburgh every year.
Fun Fact: J.K. Rowling wrote some of Harry Potter in an Edinburgh café – The Elephant
A beach without sand you say? Why yes, Brighton’s beach is made from pebbles! Perfect if you hate brushing sand out of every nook and cranny for days.
Brighton is a truly wonderful place and you will never be stuck on things to do here. From festivals to shopping in the magical Laines, and countless numbers of places to eat (this place is the BEST for veggies and vegans!) you could easily spend a week here and still have things you want to do and see.
Take a walk along the famous Pier and make sure to grab some of their gorgeous freshly made doughnuts…just watch out for the pesky seagulls, they will literally take them out of your hands if they have the chance!
Fun Fact: Opening in 1980, Brighton is home to the country’s first naturist beach!
